Waking up:. Do the first few seconds of your day feel like a “dream come true” or more something straight out of your nightmares? There’s a reason waking up on the wrong side of the bed is a thing. How you wake up sets the tone for the rest of your day. In fact, it’s one of the most underrated secrets to success there is.
The secret to a successful day is to wake up happy and succeed; It sounds easy, right? But starting your day right isn’t just about about happy thoughts and wishes. It’s about setting yourself up for small successes and repeating those tasks regularly until they become automatic.
Frank Crane said: “Habits are safer than rules; you don’t have to watch them. And you don’t have to keep them either. They keep you.” Habits don’t come easy, they require effort and practice, trial and error, but once won they’ve got great they require minimum effort for maximum results. And one of the most powerful habits you can develop is the habit of starting your day right. So, how can you make “waking up on the right side of the bed” second nature? We’ve narrowed it down to three keys.
Key 1. Analyze Your Routine
What is working in your current routine and what isn’t? The first step to making effective changes is taking an effective inventory. Take stock of the time you spend. Then go deeper. All the way down to the root: the why.
Key 2. Prep in Advance
Consider the habit of brushing your teeth. Do you have a toothbrush and toothpaste? Do you know where it is? By going to the store, getting what you need, and then putting the tools in the best and most accessible location, you’ve effectively set yourself up for successful habit maintenance. The same concept applies to creating a great morning routine.
What would make your mornings better? Are there strategies that are more effective than the others? Do your research, prepare, and put everything into place so that when it’s time to wake up you’ve empowered yourself to accomplish your goal.
Determined to Be Healthy
Your health affects everything you do, say and how you feel. I’d say it’s kinda’ important. Do you know how to be healthy? What is in the way of you being at your optimum? What are you doing differently than you have in the past? How are you setting yourself up for increased ease and likelihood of accomplishing your health goals?
Key 3. Simple Powerful Acts
Life isn’t a firework (thank goodness!). Life’s more like a campfire, made from tiny moments, and tiny sparks. It’s the simple and little things that add the flames and create the powerful force – the one that gets noticed. Your greatest power is in these small things. And you can do the small things
Gratitude is powerful. A smile is powerful. One of the most powerful things you can do to supercharge your morning is to “find the good in each day. Compliment a stranger, move your body because you can, smile and appreciate each moment and you will get much closer to your goals. –Kristen Fogarty, KriSPIN Fitness
Focus on The One
The concept of “the one” goes hand in hand with that of simple and powerful acts. We rarely affect large groups of people in big ways, but we make a huge difference to individuals each day. Singer Jack Johnson puts it this way: “…you’re so busy changing the world, just one smile and you could change all of mine…” Don’t underestimate the impact of a single effort, a single moment, a single person (including yourself). It matters.
“Pushing yourself to take simple actions creates a chain reaction in your confidence and your productivity.” ― Mel Robbins
The secret to a great morning isn’t really isn’t a secret at all. Want to start your day off right? Assess where you are and decide where you want to be. Prepare so that when it’s crunch-time, you have everything ready to go. The real secret to successful day is this: Set yourself up for success.
